The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is recruiting Light Duty Vehicle Drivers for two healthcare facilities. Successful candidates will be responsible for transporting staff, patients, medical supplies, equipment, and official documents while ensuring government vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition.

Available Locations

  • Garden Route District Office (Based at Mossel Bay Hospital)
  • Cape Winelands Health District (West Coast TB Centre, Sonstraal Hospital)

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Relevant driving or transport experience.
  • Valid Code B/EB driver's licence.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items when required.
  • Willingness to work overtime, irregular hours, standby duties, and provide support when needed.
  • Responsible work ethic with sober habits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport staff, patients, medication, equipment, parcels, and official documents.
  • Deliver and collect blood products, patient files, reports, and other medical documentation.
  • Plan and schedule transport according to operational requirements.
  • Load and unload goods and equipment safely.
  • Complete vehicle logbooks and maintain accurate transport records.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report mechanical faults or defects.
  • Clean and perform basic routine maintenance on government vehicles.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, safe, and roadworthy.
  • Assist with administrative duties and respond to emergencies when required.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and transport policies.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of road safety and transport regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Responsible, reliable, and accountable.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and defect reporting.
