Sedibeng TVET College: Preparing Learners for Skills and Careers

Sedibeng TVET College is a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution located in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. It plays a key role in helping students develop practical skills and qualifications that are closely aligned to the needs of employers and the country’s growing industries.

About the College

Sedibeng TVET College (often referred to simply as Sedcol) is one of South Africa’s accredited TVET colleges, providing vocational education that balances theoretical learning with hands-on training. Its mission prioritises preparing students for work in technical and business environments, helping them transition smoothly into employment or further study.

  • 📍 Central Office: Vereeniging, Gauteng

  • 🏫 Campuses: Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Sebokeng, and Heidelberg

  • 👩‍🏫 Staff: About 350 lecturers and 150 support personnel

  • 👨‍🎓 Student Population: Around 17 000–21 000 learners annually

The College’s vision focuses on educational quality that responds to emerging technologies, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the green economy, while its mission emphasises transforming programme offerings to create value and opportunity for all stakeholders.

Campuses and Locations

Sedibeng TVET College operates through four main campuses across the Sedibeng District in Gauteng, making vocational training accessible to urban and peri-urban communities:

  • Vereeniging Campus – Central administrative hub and major campus.

  • Vanderbijlpark Campus – Offers a mix of business and vocational programmes.

  • Sebokeng Campus – Known for both NCV (National Certificate Vocational) and other skills streams.

  • Heidelberg Campus – Provides specialised programmes and supports regional access.

Academic and Training Programmes

Sedibeng TVET College provides a wide range of vocational qualifications, with a strong focus on practical training and employment readiness. The programmes fit within South Africa’s national qualification frameworks (such as NCV and NATED/Report 191):

1. National Certificate (Vocational) – NC(V)

These programmes are designed for learners from Grade 9 and above and combine practical training with classroom learning. Areas of study include:

  • Engineering and related design

  • Electrical infrastructure construction

  • Information technology and computer science

  • Hospitality and tourism

  • Office administration and marketing

  • Finance, economics, and accounting

2. NATED (Report 191) Programmes

These are occupational and job-oriented courses available to learners with a matric certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent. They focus on technical and business skills that prepare students for specific industries. Courses may include:

  • Business management and administration

  • Financial management

  • Human resource management

  • Marketing management

  • Mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering streams

At many campuses — such as Sebokeng and Vanderbijlpark — programme admission requirements vary by course and qualification level, often including minimum passes in relevant school subjects or previous levels of vocational training.

Practical Training and Facilities

Sedibeng TVET College includes workshops, labs, libraries, and computer rooms to support hands-on learning. These facilities allow learners to practice real-world tasks — from engineering prototypes to business simulations — that help build industry-level skills.

The college also works with industry partners to give students exposure to workplace realities, internships, and opportunities for experiential learning as part of the programme curriculum.

Admissions and Application Process

Prospective learners must apply through the college’s online application portal (often called MySedcol) within specified intake periods. Applications generally require certified copies of academic records, proof of identity, and proof of residence.

Application periods are usually announced well in advance and can vary by campus and qualification type. For example, the 2026 intake applications are open through late November 2025.

Financial Support and NSFAS Funding

As a public TVET college, Sedibeng is fully accredited by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). Eligible students can apply for funding that may cover:

  • Tuition fees

  • Living allowances

  • Accommodation support

  • Transport and learning materials

NSFAS support is crucial for many learners, especially those from less advantaged backgrounds, to access and complete vocational qualifications.

Student Support Services

The college offers career guidance, academic support, and assistance with applications and funding, helping learners make informed decisions about their educational and career paths.

Role in the Community and Economy

Sedibeng TVET College contributes significantly to skills development in Gauteng and beyond. By offering relevant training opportunities that match the needs of local industries, the college helps drive employment readiness, supports youth empowerment, and strengthens regional economic growth.
