Driver Operator (Earthmoving and Non-Earthmoving Equipment)

Salary: R163 680 per annum (Level 03)

Locations & Posts Available:
Positions are available across multiple regions, including Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith, Durban, and Empangeni, with various roles distributed among different cost centres and operational teams such as Grader, Maintenance, Betterment, Blacktop, Depot, and Flying Squad teams.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 10 certificate (NQF Level 2)
• Valid Code EC Driver’s Licence with PrDP
• Operating Certificate or Departmental Competency (Pink Card) for specialised equipment
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in driving and operating specialised machinery

Key Competencies:

• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to read and write
• Strong eyesight and attention to detail
• Skilled in operating heavy equipment
• Ability to inspect vehicles and interpret operating instructions and manuals

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate specialised machinery and equipment
• Load and offload materials and equipment
• Conduct inspections and basic maintenance; report defects
• Maintain vehicle and machinery logbooks
• Follow safety procedures and precautions
• Perform cleaning and lubrication of equipment
• Carry out road grading, re-gravelling, and shoulder maintenance
• Transport work teams, materials, and equipment
• Identify and resolve minor mechanical issues
