Position Overview

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is inviting applications for two General Cleaner positions within the Facilities Management Division: Cleaning, General Work & Waste Management. The successful candidates will assist in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the campus while supporting excellent service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, polish, and maintain floors and carpets
• Clean offices, furniture, windowsills, restrooms, and common areas
• Empty waste bins and transport waste to collection points
• Refill consumable items such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels
• Operate cleaning equipment and machinery after training
• Follow cleaning procedures and safety standards
• Report faulty equipment and potential hazards
• Maintain cleanliness in work areas and storage facilities

Health & Safety Duties

• Adhere to all health and safety regulations
• Wear protective clothing and uniforms where required
• Support safe working practices on campus
• Ensure equipment and facilities remain secure and well maintained

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 10 qualification
• Vocational Certificate (NQF Level 1)
• Relevant cleaning experience
• Must reside in Devland (proof of residence required)

Added Advantages

• Knowledge of basic cleaning procedures
• At least one year of cleaning experience
• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification

Skills & Competencies

• Good communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
• Able to follow instructions effectively
• Basic reading and writing skills
