About the Company

Starke Ayres is a leading African seed specialist and international supplier of premium vegetable, flower, and lawn seed varieties for both commercial growers and home gardeners. The company is seeking a dedicated General Worker to join its Garden Centre team in Rosebank, Cape Town.

Position Purpose

The successful candidate will provide general support throughout the Garden Centre, assisting with nursery maintenance, stock handling, housekeeping, basic maintenance, and customer service support. The role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for customers and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with watering plants and caring for nursery stock.
• Repack, organise, and restock products when required.
• Maintain cleanliness of the Garden Centre, sales floor, parking areas, and surrounding grounds.
• Clean gutters and stormwater drainage systems.
• Sweep and blow designated areas within the Garden Centre.
• Support loading bay operations, including unloading deliveries, pricing stock, and transporting products to the sales floor.
• Maintain housekeeping standards in loading and storage areas.
• Assist with painting, touch-ups, and upkeep of fences, benches, pots, signage, and other fixtures.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks, including minor repairs to shelves, brackets, taps, and other structures.
• Help set up, relocate, and refurbish displays and garden features.
• Ensure tools and equipment storage areas remain clean and organised.
• Assist with seasonal nursery preparation, including irrigation systems, plant beds, shade netting, and misting systems.
• Report maintenance concerns, hazards, or safety issues to management promptly.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
• Previous maintenance experience will be advantageous.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
• Good attention to detail and willingness to work outdoors.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Reliable, hardworking, and safety-conscious attitude.
