Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 1 qualification, ABET Level 4 certificate, or an equivalent qualification.
  • No previous work experience is required.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Good communication skills will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and in different weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine road construction and maintenance work according to approved work plans and safety standards.
  • Repair potholes, seal road cracks, resurface roads, and carry out re-gravelling activities.
  • Construct, repair, and maintain road embankments, culverts, stormwater drainage systems, side drains, ditches, concrete channels, and outlets.
  • Clean and maintain road reserves, sidewalks, drainage systems, rest areas, and other road infrastructure.
  • Install, replace, repair, and clean road signs, road markings, delineators, and other traffic control infrastructure.
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of road fencing, steel guardrails, gabions, and pipe-laying projects.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, small machinery, and specialised road maintenance equipment.
  • Safeguard departmental tools, equipment, and materials and report any losses or damage.
  • Maintain clean and safe work sites while complying with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
  • Assist with traffic accommodation measures and any additional road maintenance duties assigned by supervisors.

Additional Information

  • Successful candidates may be required to travel throughout Gauteng Province and stay near construction or maintenance sites when necessary.
