UNFPA South Africa is offering three internship opportunities:
- Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), HIV, Gender, and Youth Programmes – 2 Interns
- Operations and Administration – 1 Intern
About the Opportunity
UNFPA is seeking motivated and talented graduates or students to support programme implementation, coordination, administration, and operational activities within its South Africa Country Office. Interns will gain valuable exposure to international development work while contributing to meaningful projects that advance health, gender equality, youth empowerment, and organizational effectiveness.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree programme and have completed at least one academic year.
- Currently enrolled in a postgraduate qualification (Honours, Master's, or higher).
- Recently graduated and able to commence the internship within one year of graduation.
- Enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme requiring internship participation.
Desired Skills and Competencies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Good analytical, research, and report-writing abilities.
- Interest in development and humanitarian work.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Previous volunteer or development-sector experience will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Interns
- Assist with stakeholder engagements, meetings, workshops, and forums.
- Support programme planning, monitoring, and coordination activities.
- Prepare reports, briefing notes, concept papers, and communication materials.
- Assist with logistics and capacity-building initiatives.
Operations and Administration Intern
- Support financial administration and expenditure monitoring.
- Assist with budget planning and donor reporting.
- Coordinate payment processes and administrative documentation.
- Support VAT management and financial tracking activities.
