This partnership aims to equip unemployed youth with practical workplace experience, industry-relevant skills, and exposure to the dynamic retail sector, helping them build sustainable career paths.

A Commitment to Youth Development

The partnership between TFG and YES4Youth forms part of a broader national effort to combat youth unemployment in South Africa. Youth Employment Service was launched in collaboration with government and business leaders to create large-scale employment opportunities for young people who are entering the workforce for the first time.

Through this initiative, The Foschini Group provides workplace learning opportunities within its retail stores, distribution centres, and corporate offices across the country. Participants gain practical experience while developing essential workplace skills that improve their employability.

About The Foschini Group

The Foschini Group is one of South Africa’s largest retail groups, with a portfolio of well-known fashion and lifestyle brands. The company operates thousands of stores locally and internationally and has a long-standing commitment to transformation, skills development, and youth empowerment.

By partnering with Youth Employment Service, TFG continues to invest in building the next generation of skilled professionals within the retail industry.

What the YES4Youth Learnership Offers

The YES4Youth learnership programmes hosted by The Foschini Group are designed to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical workplace exposure.

Participants in the programme typically benefit from:

  • 12 months of workplace experience in a retail or business environment

  • Structured learning and skills development

  • Monthly stipends to support participants during the programme

  • Exposure to customer service, sales operations, merchandising, and retail administration

  • Mentorship and supervision from experienced professionals

The programme provides young people with valuable insight into how the retail sector operates while helping them develop confidence and professional skills.

Skills Gained During the Programme

Participants enrolled in the YES4Youth programme gain experience in several important areas, including:

  • Customer service and communication skills

  • Retail sales and merchandising techniques

  • Stock management and store operations

  • Administrative and business support functions

  • Workplace professionalism and teamwork

These skills are highly transferable and can help participants pursue careers in retail, customer service, logistics, administration, and other sectors.

Supporting South Africa’s Economic Growth

The collaboration between The Foschini Group and Youth Employment Service demonstrates how partnerships between the private sector and national initiatives can make a meaningful difference in addressing unemployment.

By providing young South Africans with real workplace experience, these programmes help bridge the gap between education and employment, while strengthening the country’s skills pipeline.

Creating Opportunities for the Future

Learnership programmes such as the YES4Youth initiative hosted by The Foschini Group are helping to shape a more inclusive and skilled workforce in South Africa.

For many young participants, the programme serves as a first step into the job market, providing the experience and confidence needed to pursue further employment opportunities.

As more organisations join initiatives like Youth Employment Service, the potential to transform the lives of thousands of young South Africans continues to grow — creating hope, skills, and opportunities for the future.
