John Thompson, a division of ACTOM and one of South Africa’s leading manufacturers of industrial and utility boilers, is inviting applications for Apprenticeship opportunities in Boilermaking and Welding. The company is committed to employment equity and affirmative action.

Apprenticeship Opportunities

• Boilermaking Apprenticeship
• Welding Apprenticeship

A maximum of 20 apprenticeship positions are available for candidates residing in the Western Cape.

Important Information

• Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
• Successful applicants will complete psychometric assessments.
• Candidates who pass the assessments will first be employed as unskilled workers for a three-month evaluation period.
• Apprenticeship contracts will be offered to candidates who successfully complete the evaluation period and demonstrate the potential to complete the programme.
• Training will take place at the John Thompson office in Bellville.
• Only Western Cape residents may apply.
• Applications must include:
  • A CV of no more than 4 pages
  • Academic results
  • Certified copies of qualifications/certificates
• Applications without certificates will not be considered.
• Candidates with qualifications in Electrical, Diesel, Fitting & Turning, Motor Trades, National Diplomas, or qualified artisan status will not be considered.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have one of the following qualifications:

• Grade 12 Technical with:
  • Metalwork
  • Welders Theory
  • Technical Mathematics (Mathematics Literacy not accepted)
  • Technical Science

OR

• Grade 12 Academic with:
  • Mathematics (Mathematics Literacy not accepted)
  • Physical Science

OR

• N2 qualification including:
  • Platers Theory or Welders Theory
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science
  • Platers Drawings

OR

• NCV Level 4 in Fabrication (Mathematics Literacy not accepted)

Additional requirements:

• Must be medically fit for the relevant trade
• Must have a genuine interest in engineering

Experience

No previous experience is required, as successful candidates will receive full training.
