Join a Leading Food Production Team

An established food production company based in Kyalami is looking for dedicated, hardworking, and detail-oriented General Kitchen Assistants to join its Central Production Kitchen. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about producing quality food while maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.

Successful candidates will assist with food preparation, packing, labelling, storage, and dispatch of products supplied to restaurants, airline catering, retail outlets, banqueting services, and export customers.

Key Responsibilities

Food Production

  • Assist with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients.
  • Support chefs and production staff in achieving daily production targets.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment.
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, HACCP, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Assist with stock rotation using FIFO and FEFO principles.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties within the production area.

Packing, Labelling & Storage

  • Label finished products with accurate batch numbers, production dates, expiry dates, and allergen information.
  • Pack products according to customer and company specifications.
  • Store products correctly in chilled, frozen, or ambient storage areas.
  • Ensure products are sealed, labelled, and stored to maintain quality and traceability.
  • Monitor storage temperatures and report any irregularities.

Dispatch

  • Prepare customer orders for daily dispatch.
  • Verify product quantities and quality before loading.
  • Complete dispatch documentation accurately.
  • Work closely with the logistics team to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 or Grade 12 (Matric). Matric will be an advantage.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a kitchen, food production, food manufacturing, warehouse, or dispatch environment is advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices is beneficial. Training will be provided.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Physically fit and able to lift and move stock when required.
  • Comfortable working in chilled and freezer environments.
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills.
