Overview
This learnership offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Research & Development (R&D) team, supporting seasoning and product development projects. The successful candidate will assist with planning, coordinating, and executing trials while working closely with R&D Technologists and Managers.
The role involves contributing to project delivery across various workstreams, ranging from routine tasks to more structured project-based activities within the South African R&D team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and aligning trial protocols with the R&D Technologist or Manager
- Coordinate and support research and development projects according to planned timelines
- Support prototype development and pilot plant trials for low-complexity projects
- Participate in production trials and report findings using the TSG methodology
- Communicate trial requirements with stakeholders and assist in pre-trial planning
- Attend pilot plant and factory trials when required
Laboratory & Product Testing
- Conduct routine analytical and quality testing, including:
- Salt analysis
- Oil analysis
- Bulk density analysis
- Particle size analysis
- Moisture analysis
Operational Support
- Collect base product samples from production lines for pilot plant development
- Collaborate with product developers and cross-functional teams
- Maintain good manufacturing practices (GMP) and hygiene standards
- Support Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives
- Apply seasoning processes to meet product specifications
Project & Technical Support
- Develop and manage project timelines
- Assist with scaling up production in PepsiCo plants and partner facilities
- Prepare clear and accurate reports with recommendations on formulations and processes
- Draft technical documentation such as product specifications and packaging standards
- Work with regulatory teams to ensure compliance
Minimum Requirements
- Completed the theoretical component of a qualification in a scientific field (e.g., Biochemistry, Food Technology, or Engineering) with an average above 60%
- Currently in the final year of studies
- South African citizen
- Strong analytical and technical skills with basic statistical knowledge
- Ability to interpret data and present meaningful insights
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented, organised, and reliable
- Self-motivated with a proactive mindset
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments
- High level of integrity in handling confidential information
- A valid driver’s license is advantageous
