π For the 2027 Academic Year
The Sasol Mainstream Bursary Programme offers a comprehensive support package that includes both financial assistance and developmental support throughout the duration of studies. The bursary is available to students pursuing full-time university studies in Engineering and Science fields.
Upon successful completion of studies, bursary recipients may have the opportunity to join Sasol through its Graduate Development Programmes. Please note that this bursary includes a work-back and/or pay-back obligation.
β οΈ Technical Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy are not accepted for this bursary programme.

Undergraduate Studies (B.Eng. / B.Sc.)
Applications are open for degree studies only (Diplomas are not accepted). Available study fields include:
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemistry (Studies up to Honours level required)
- Civil Engineering
- Data Science β Computer Science
- Data Science β Mathematics
- Data Science β Operations Research
- Data Science β Statistics
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Geology (Honours level required)
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgy / Metallurgical Engineering (Honours level required)
- Mining Engineering
Undergraduate Studies (B.Eng. Tech.) β Universities of Technology
- Mine Surveying
Postgraduate Studies (M.Sc. / M.Eng. / PhD.)
Postgraduate bursaries are available in specialised Chemistry and Chemical Engineering fields supporting Sasolβs sustainability, energy transition, and circular economy initiatives.
Areas include:
- Fluid Dynamics
- Process Modelling
- Reactor Technology
- Thermodynamics
- Separation Technology
- Environmental Science
- Catalysis and Polymer Science
- Cyber Security
- Applied Mathematics
- Statistics
Applicants do not need a formal research proposal but should have an interest area aligned with Sasolβs sustainability objectives.
General Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must study full-time at a recognised South African university
- Applicants must be under the age of 30 at the time of application
- Only one application per student is allowed
- Combined/dual degree programmes are not accepted
- Distance learning institutions such as UNISA are not accepted
Important Notes
- Applications must be submitted online via the official Sasol bursary website
- Incomplete or late applications will not be considered
- Applications submitted via email will not be accepted
- Providing incorrect information may result in disqualification or termination of the bursary
π Students applying for first-year studies must apply using their Grade 11 results. Final Grade 12 results must remain consistent with submitted academic performance for the bursary to remain valid.
Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme

The Sasol Foundation offers bursaries for STEM and selected Non-STEM qualifications to deserving South African students. Priority is given to qualifications linked to future skills such as:
- Engineering
- Information Technology
- Data Science
- Agricultural Science
- Environmental Science
- Medical Science
- Construction and Manufacturing
No undergraduate or postgraduate bursaries will be offered for the 2026 academic year.
Sasol Mining Bursary Opportunities

This bursary programme supports students from Sasol Mining fence-line communities studying Engineering and Science qualifications.
Eligible fields include:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Geology
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Mine Surveying
Preference is given to students from qualifying municipalities in Mpumalanga, Free State, and Gauteng fence-line communities.
Sasol YES Programme

The Sasol YES Programme provides unemployed youth with workplace experience opportunities aimed at improving employability and developing practical skills. More than 400 young people have already benefited from the programme.
